In the old SAP ECC world, profitability & margin analysis happened after the fact when all settlements were completed. With Simple Finance, SAP has radically overhauled how Finance & Controlling works in SAP S/4HANA. One of the key benefits is that now it is possible to have real-time visibility into the margins without waiting for settlements. Margin analysis can examine different types of cost collector objects, such as Projects (WBS Element) or Internal Orders. While SAP S/4HANA provides the necessary framework and data to make this analysis possible, SAP Analytics Cloud offers a way to visualize this information in the form of an interactive dashboard with a live connection to SAP S/4HANA. The concept can also be extended to cover topics such as Product Profitability.

Westernacher Margin Analysis Dashboard
The Westernacher Margin Analysis Dashboard provides real-time visibility into margin for Products, Projects (WBS Elements) or Internal Orders using data from your SAP S/4HANA system. It allows controllers to analyze various margin & profitability metrics, such as Contribution Margin 1, 2 and 3 to gain insights that can drive decision-making. Data is visualized using charts and tables that are linked to enable interactivity during analysis. Various filters and prompts allow you to narrow the analysis to the desired scope based on different dimensions. Dedicated pages enable deep dives into a Project, Internal Order or Product. These pages can be customized to add new charts or amend existing ones as needed, using the underlying live data models.

This page acts as a central launch point for all the other pages in the dashboard and also acts as the cover page i.e. the first page that you see after opening the dashboard.

Overview page
This page gives an overview of all the topics and KPIs covered in the dashboard. It allows us to see the top projects, orders or products and examine the margin KPIs for these in an interactive way.

Project Margin Analysis
This page allows us to do a deepdive on Project (WBS Element) margin analysis. We can select a particular project from the filter and see the various profitability KPIs including Revenue, Costs, Contribution Margin 1, 2 & 3 along with the percentages. The individual CM percentages can be color coded based on what a customer considers to be the good/average/bad thresholds.

Internal Order Analysis
This page allows us to do a deepdive on Internal Orders margin analysis. We can select a particular order from the filter and see the various profitability KPIs including Revenue, Costs, Contribution Margin 1, 2 & 3 along with the percentages.
