The Challenge – Transforming Inbound Logistics with Visibility and Control.

Outsourced transportation processes lacked end-to-end visibility, resulting in slower inbound shipments and a rise in disputes. Due to outsourced process, Lucid didn’t had any control over the planning of the shipments systematically which can help to plan efficiently and reduce any transportation costs and visibility.

As Lucid Motors scaled production across North America, its inbound transportation process became increasingly difficult to manage through externally planned shipments and a third-party carrier portal. External planning, limited shipment visibility, supplier handoffs, and carrier disputes were creating unnecessary cost and complexity.

Working with Westernacher Consulting, Lucid transformed the process with SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) and SAP Business Network for Logistics Freight Collaboration and SAP Business for Logistics Global Track & Trace – bringing inbound transportation planning in-house, connecting suppliers and carriers, and giving its teams real-time visibility from shipment confirmation through delivery.

This release delivers a key enterprise capability to standardize and enable end-to-end inbound domestic transportation execution within SAP, providing improved visibility, tighter integration across logistics and finance, and a scalable foundation for supplier collaboration across US, Canada and Mexico domestic flows.

The Result – From Outsourced and Opaque to an In-house and Fully Visible Shipment Process.

Westernacher Consulting implemented SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) and SAP Business Network for Logistics Freight Collaboration to standardize how Lucid plans and executes inbound transportation.

Starting from a review of Lucid’s existing planning process and its use of outside systems, Westernacher brought the idea of a dedicated supplier portal and helped in building an Inhouse Supplier Portal that lets suppliers confirm shipments directly, replacing the third-party carrier portal and its ongoing cost. This also lead to inhouse planning of the shipments which allows more control on how to move the shipments from supplier to Lucid plant locations.

Lucid’s own team now plans inbound shipments inside SAP TM, using planning methods designed around how the supply chain actually operates. SAP Business for Logistics Global Track and Trace gives real-time status on every shipment, and dispute management now runs inside SAP TM instead of outside it.
