Challenge
When three civil engineering firms joined forces to form a joint venture (JV), they faced a critical challenge: each firm brought its own unique portfolio of systems, applications, and data in various formats, resulting in a fragmented IT- and business landscape with significant overlap and redundancies. Without an Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) tool in place, the JV lacked visibility in its collective AS-IS architecture, making it difficult to identify and eliminate redundant applications and streamline operations.
Achieving a consolidated view of the JV’s enterprise architecture was essential to set the groundwork for future rationalization initiatives. However, to initiate the rationalization efforts, the JV required expert assistance to assess the existing scattered data and implement a baseline EAM tool capable of managing the consolidated application landscape.
Solution
We, at Westernacher /formerly Konfident, were engaged to lead the baseline implementation of SAP LeanIX, focusing on delivering an EAM solution that would address the JV’s needs for an overview of the consolidated AS-IS enterprise architecture and set the stage for future application rationalization efforts. The implementation focused on defining and configuring a tailored data model from scratch that would support the JV’s specific objectives, particularly in mapping business capabilities to applications. Key elements of the solution included:
Identifying relevant and available data sources from the existing and available fragmented data in various formats.
Defining and configuring the target data model, so that it ensures that the data is of high quality and completeness.
Populating and mapping data in LeanIX to support data-driven decision making based on accurate data, with a focus on applications and business capabilities.
Creating tailored dashboards and reports that would enable the JV to initiate application rationalization in the future.
Establishing guidelines and conventions material for the ongoing use of SAP LeanIX.
