Westernacher Consulting successfully implemented SAP EWM at three of Basamh Group’s nine distribution centers. Following the triumphant go-lives, the trading company is feeling the positive effects on its bottom line and enjoying the benefits of SAP EWM such as efficient task management and increased resource utilization. Despite challenging remote delivery in the MENA region, Westernacher is proud to have completed the SAP EWM go-live at Basamh’s distribution center in Riyadh 100% offsite without a hitch in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Overcoming unexpected challenges brought by the pandemic.
Basamh Group is a market leader in the Middle East in the import and distribution of household names covering retailers, wholesalers, pharmacies and caterers. The Basamh network covers more than 147 cities, towns, and villages across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Their warehouses are located in nine cities in Saudi, with the three that went live with SAP EWM functioning as the main distribution centers to facilitate efficient distribution.
While we could execute the project onsite as always for the first two warehouses in Jeddah and Dammam, the project delivery for the third warehouse in Riyadh was complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which made it impossible to work on the customer site. One of the astounding aspects of Westernacher’s response to the pandemic was the pace at which our delivery teams were able to switch to remote working while ensuring quality in projects. This is particularly challenging in the MENA region as clients normally demand heavy onsite presence. We are proud of the fact that we delivered this project 100% remotely.
In the highly competitive fast-moving consumer goods field, Basamh needed to improve our on-time delivery, increase our salesforce efficiency, and automate reporting and employee self-services to enhance business competitiveness.

  • Processes delivered: inbound, internal and outbound.
  • 3m cartons dispatched daily from the Riyadh warehouse in March.
  • 700 pallets received daily from suppliers.

Win-win for efficiency and sustainability.
As a result of the SAP EWM implementation in Basamh Group’s three warehouses, the trading company has increased the efficiency in task management markedly. The warehouse operators are now able to complete as many tasks as possible – thanks to SAP EWM algorithms. In addition, warehouse pickers are automatically fed the next task, which allows them to focus on the job rather than referring back to the supervisor for their next activity, resulting in an increased number of picks. Furthermore, with SAP EWM’s resource management functionality, Basamh is able to optimally use all warehouse resources such as forklifts, reach trucks, etc.
The First Expiry First Out (FEFO) process in SAP EWM enables the products which expire sooner to be shipped out first. Through reduction in wastage, Basamh’s warehouses have become greener. What makes them even more environmentally friendly is their new paperless environment: the use of hand-held devices running on Westernacher’s inhouse WeScan UI5 app has greatly enhanced user experience, including paperless operations.
