Challenge

A global metal manufacturing company initiated its Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) journey with SAP LeanIX but lacked the internal momentum and engagement needed to use it effectively, thus struggling with limited visibility into their AS-IS enterprise architecture.
The adoption of SAP LeanIX was primarily driven by a single individual, creating a bottleneck in realizing the platform’s full potential. With large transformation ambitions on the horizon, the organization recognized the need to extend LeanIX adoption in order to enable data-driven decisions for their ongoing business transformation.
As a large multinational manufacturer, they required a robust overview of their total transformation capabilities and a collaborative approach to EAM, enabling broader employee participation and onboarding. Given the low maturity of their existing LeanIX efforts, they sought an external partner to help prioritize, plan, and inspire future use cases for the platform’s adoption and the elevation of their EAM practices.

Solution

Westernacher /formerly Konfident was engaged as a consulting partner to strengthen the metal manufacturer’s EAM practice and enhance the adoption and maturity of SAP LeanIX within the organization. Our approach was to support the firm’s transformation ambitions through an improved data model, standardized processes, and expanded adoption. Key steps of the solution included:
Establishing the AS-IS architecture
We reviewed the existing LeanIX setup, defined requirements for future transformation use cases, and configured LeanIX to reflect these needs. To enhance visibility, we configured necessary reports, KPIs, and dashboards to provide transparency and support decision-making.
Configuration of Factsheet Insights (FSI)
Implemented our SAP LeanIX managed service to automate data quality monitoring, ensuring high data quality. By ensuring data quality, FSI provided a trusted foundation for future transformation planning, making LeanIX a reliable source of truth.
Defining conventions and configurations
We developed data conventions within SAP LeanIX to ensure consistency, reliability, and ease of use for all relevant employees. By defining how data should be represented and measured, we enabled a more structured approach to EAM that supported broader adoption.
Employee enablement
To reduce dependency on a single LeanIX expert, we provided training and enablement sessions tailored to various user groups, expanding LeanIX adoption across the organization. This effort made LeanIX operationally valuable to a broader base of relevant employees and stakeholders.
Developing a roadmap for ongoing maturity
To sustain the EAM practice, we developed a roadmap outlining future adoption and maturity milestones, prioritizing LeanIX capabilities that aligned with the manufacturer’s strategic goals.

Success

This engagement has become an ongoing, successful journey for the metal manufacturer. The AS-IS architecture overview now provides high-quality transparency into their enterprise landscape, serving as a strong foundation for their transformation goals and ambitions. With Factsheet Insights (FSI) and standardized data conventions in place, the data quality in LeanIX has become highly reliable, and employees trust the platform as a source of truth for EA insights.
Employee enablement has broadened SAP LeanIX adoption, reducing dependency on a single individual and allowing a greater number of contributors and stakeholders to actively participate in EAM practices. This collaborative approach, supported by ongoing training and a structured roadmap, keeps LeanIX aligned with the manufacturer’s strategic goals and ensures the EAM practice continues to mature and supports the strategic transformation goals.
